Jan Wiącek

Jan Wiącek (16 April 1943 – 10 October 2023) was one of the founders of the Stefan Wasiak Lira Singing Society in Warsaw. He founded the Male Choir in 1990 and the Boys’ Choir in 1994, and served as the Society’s Artistic Director from 1996 to 2009.

He graduated in Music Education from the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. Over 40 years, he organised and led numerous vocal ensembles in the city, including the choirs of the Lutnia and Harfa singing societies.

He performed with various ensembles in Canada, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Greece and Hungary, winning awards at choral competitions in Poland and abroad.

He received four awards from Warsaw’s education superintendents for his achievements in teaching and choral work.

He died on 10 October 2023 and was laid to rest at Bródno Cemetery in Warsaw, plot 24 G – 5 – 11.
